Youth Development Camp at Maha Karuna

A youth development camp for 50 students of various secondary schools in KL was organized at Maha Karuna, Subang 2 in Nov.

Many of these students are musically-inclined and these exuberant youngsters had the opportunity to use their talents during the camp. They showcased their talents during the evening performance, where they put up a talent show, comprising of dances, dramas and singing. They are so full of energy and their enthusiasm was truly infectious!

Programs organized for the camp was well-rounded. They ranged from mind-teaser ice-breaking games, dharma talk, public speaking session, time management talk, understand yourself session, art theraphy, understanding personal space, hymn-singing session and puja.

The students were obviously very independent and responsible, whereby they planned their own duty roster for cleaning up the premise after meals, washing of cutleries and arranging chairs at dining hall. The elder ones would ensure that the young ones were taken care of. The younger participants were primary school students. Yet, they are able to mingle well with the much older secondary school students and participated actively in the planned programmes.

Enclosed are videos of these young people and more photos of the camp can be viewed at http://picasaweb.google.com/setenang.

Launch of Dharma Tunes

A launch was held for Dharma Tunes Volume 1 hymn book on National Day at Maha Karuna Buddhist Association by Ven. B. Sri Saranankara Nayaka Maha Thera, Adhikarana Sangha Nayaka, Malaysia. Setenang community came together to support this event.

The Dharma Tunes hymn book was an effort led by Bro. Chong Su Lim, the Editor-in-Chief of this publication. The objective is to put together a hymn book that contains full music notation for piano, lyrics and guitar chords. As such this would help in the propagation of Dharma through music and as also enrich the activities of Sunday Dharma School.

Dharma Tunes Volume 1 is published by Setenang Community. The first printing is for 1,000 copies that will be distributed to Buddhist Societies free-of-charge. We require RM 10,000 for this effort to defray the costs of music notation, layout design, song recording, mastering and printing. So far, we have collected about half of the required amount. Therefore, your support and contribution are much appreciated to make this landmark publication a reality.May the Blessings of the Triple Gem be with you always. Click here for Dharma Tunes donation flyer. Thank you.

Work on Dharma Tunes Vol. 2 will start soon. If you would like to contribute Buddhist musical material or support this effort, you are most welcome. Please e-mail to: sulimc@yahoo.com.
